Strong coupling of excited heavy mesons
We compute the strong coupling constant , where () is the wave state, by QCD sum rules and by light-cone sum rules. The two methods give
compatible results in the limit , with a rather large value of
the coupling constant. We apply the results to the calculation of the hadronic
widths of the positive parity and states and to the chiral loop

Superconducting proximity effect in clean ferromagnetic layers
We investigate superconducting proximity effect in clean ferromagnetic layers
with rough boundaries. The subgap density of states is formed by Andreev bound
states at energies which depend on trajectory length and the ferromagnetic
exchange field. At energies above the gap, the spectrum is governed by resonant
scattering states. The resulting density of states, measurable by tunneling
spectroscopy, exhibits a rich structure, which allows to connect the

Low Energy Theory for 2 flavors at High Density QCD
We construct the effective Lagrangian describing the low energy excitations
for Quantum Chromodynamics with two flavors at high density. The non-linear
realization framework is employed to properly construct the low energy
effective theory. The light degrees of freedom, as required by 't Hooft anomaly
conditions, contain massless fermions which we properly include in the
effective Lagrangian. We also provide a discussion of the linearly realized

Star clusters near and far; tracing star formation across cosmic time

In this review, we will first focus on their constituents, i.e.\ detailed insight into their stellar populations and their surrounding ionised, warm, neutral, and molecular gas. We, then, move beyond the Local Group to review star cluster populations at various evolutionary stages, and in diverse galactic environmental conditions accessible in the local Universe. At high redshift, where conditions for cluster formation and evolution are more extreme, we are only able to observe the integrated light of a handful of objects that we believe will become globular clusters. We therefore discuss how numerical and analytical methods, informed by the observed properties of cluster populations in the local Universe, are used to develop sophisticated simulations potentially capable of disentangling the genetic map of galaxy formation and assembly that is carried by globular cluster populations.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Search for heavy lepton partners of neutrinos in proton-proton collisions in the context of the type III seesaw mechanism

The official publishe version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 ElsevierA search is presented in protonâproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7TeV for fermionic triplet states expected in type III seesaw models. The search is performed using final states with three isolated charged leptons and an imbalance in transverse momentum. The data, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fbâ1. No excess of events is observed above the background predicted by the standard model, and the results are interpreted in terms of limits on production cross sections and masses of the heavy partners of the neutrinos in type III seesaw models. Depending on the considered scenarios, lower limits are obtained on the mass of the heavy partner of the neutrino that range from 180 to 210 GeV. Emotional Intelligence and Transformational and Transactional Leadership: A Meta-Analysis
The purpose of this study is to evaluate claims that emotional intelligence is significantly related to transformational and other leadership behaviors. Results (based on 62 independent samples) indicated a validity estimate of .59 when ratings of both emotional intelligence and leadership behaviors were provided by the same source (self, subordinates, peers, or superiors). However, when ratings of the constructs were derived from different sources, the validity estimate was .12. Lower validity estimates were found for transactional and laissez-faire leadership behaviors. Separate analyses were performed for each measure of emotional intelligence. Trait measures of emotional intelligence tended to show higher validities than ability-based measures of emotional intelligence. Agreement across ratings sources for the same construct was low for both transformational leadership (.14) and emotional intelligence (.16)
Patient perceptions of crisis pain management in sickle cell disease: a cross-cultural study
Sickle cell disease has a variety of signs and symptoms, the most common being painful vaso-occlusive crises. Due to the severity of the pain, narcotic analgesia is described in the literature as the drug of choice for pain relief. The UK, in line with many other countries, uses narcotic analgesia in crisis management. In Jamaica, however, mild analgesia is the usual drug of choice for the patient in crisis. This difference in management approaches between the two countries was seen as an area for exploration to determine the factors which may reflect the nursing strategies used. This paper describes a cross-cultural survey of patients' perceptions of the painful crises and their management within the home and healthcare settings in Jamaica (West Indies) and Birmingham (UK).
The results of the study show many areas of similarities, particularly in relation to the causes of the crises, home management and in-patient admissions. However, there were significant differences in crisis length and the in-patient management of crises. The study highlighted areas of crisis management which must be improved in the UK if patients are to receive optimum care from primary care and hospital nurses, as well as from general practitioners
